Aquarium fun…

on May 7, 2012

Over the kids’ spring break, we decided to head on down to Myrtle Beach, SC to visit with family and friends and relax a little.  While we were there, we thought we should do something a little “tourist-y” — which is always fun!

With three kids with such distance between their ages, finding something to do that everyone will have fun can sometimes prove difficult.  Enter:  The Myrtle Beach Ripley’s Aquarium!  It’s fun for everyone and educational too — always a plus!

We decided to take the kids over to the Aquarium even though (in my cheap-skate-ness) I secretly thought “Oh, how much is THIS gonna cost us?!”  — but it WAS my idea, so off we went to explore the sea creatures!

When we got everyone over to purchase the tickets, we were pleasantly surprised (well, me and my wallet were thrilled, but everyone else was pleasantly surprised) that they offered an active-duty military discount that ended up making the tickets almost 75% off the original price!  So all you military families out there…  check it out because it really was a great price and a lot of fun for all of us!  And THAT’s not something I can say very often!

LB2 was super excited to meet a “REAL” mermaid!!  She just couldn’t believe her luck that the mermaid let her sit on the rock with her and everything! LB3 walked up to touch her tail and, when it moved, she ran away crying.  Umm, so no picture of LB3 with the mermaid. LOL

She DID, however, play in the water.  Hmm, no surprise there :).

The tank had horseshoe crabs to pet and hold.  LB2 wanted to hold one until she actually got to hold one and then she just wanted to put it down.  It was funny, though, so we did get to chuckle a bit over that one.  🙂

There was a dive show where everyone could sit and enjoy a diver in the tank with all the sea animals.  It was pretty cool and the kids were enthralled for a few minutes (before the moving track caught their attention and they wanted to check out that).

You can’t really tell from any of my pictures (famous photographer extraordinaire that I am) but over the moving track is a huge glass enclosed tank where sharks reside along with various kinds of fish, sea turtles, giant stingrays, sawfish… Oh My! There really was a lot to see in this tank and it was so cool to see them all just hanging out with each other not really even noticing anyone fish over another!

Here’s a pic of the view from above the tank.

The sea turtle in the tank was just gliding around.

They even had this play area for the little kids where LB2 and LB3

had a lot of fun getting swallowed up in the scary fish from Nemo!

Weeeeeee!   The tongue was a slide :).

Looks a little creepy to me, but they had fun.

Little Big Bit seemed to escape my super stealthy picture-taking abilities.  Hmmm, I’m SURE that wasn’t on purpose.  Next time (insert maniacal laugh here :D) he will not evade the picture-taking!   Mwahahahaha.

Ok, so, all in all everyone had a great time!  I always love to go to the aquarium because it doesn’t matter what the weather’s like outside or the fact that I have a toddler and a teenager to please, we all end up having fun!  We might just go there again this summer since they offer such an awesome discount for military members — that was the best surprise of all that day!!

Until next time!
